Corydoras aeneus is one of the most popular species within the Corydoras genus. Along with Corydoras paleatus, they have been well-known in the aquarium hobby for several decades. They are favored bottom-dwelling fish for many hobbyists because they are considered essential for keeping the aquarium substrate clean by scavenging food remnants that other fish might have missed. In recent years, many more species of Corydoras have entered the market, but for a long time, Corydoras aeneus were the most commonly kept "catfish" in the hobby.
