It can grow and be very compact but the grass effect can only be achieved with strong lighting. Plant small clumps of the plant a few centimetres apart to help it grow more quickly. It should be in an open place with no shadows cast by other plants to ensure that it gets as much light as possible. It can also be used in garden ponds and brackish aquariums as it tolerates low concentrations of salt. Its height does not exceed 3-4 cm.
