It is a water fern that you have to tie to some wood or stone with a line until it catches itself. If you plant it on the bottom you have to be careful not to cover the trunk (the horizontal root system) or it will rot. It is easy to propagate it by simply cutting off the horizontal rhizome. It is a very hardy plant that thrives in all conditions. The black spots under its leaves are sporangia (reproductive organs) and not signs of disease in the plant as many mistakenly believe.
