The Blue Diamond Discus has been selectively bred for its beautiful blue coloration. However, the overall coloration of the Discus will vary depending on the mood and overall health of the fish. The Discus has surpassed the Angelfish as the most popular freshwater aquarium fish. Depending on subspecies, the natural range of Discus extends from the Amazon to the Rio Negro regions of South America.
The Blue Diamond Discus requires an advanced level of care due to its feeding habits and water filtration requirements. Terrestrially during spawning, this otherwise peaceful fish joins the training group, forming a well-defined family.
Becoming slightly territorial when breeding, it is best to breed an established pair or keep a group of young Discus and allow them to mate. Warm, soft, slightly acidic water is required for breeding. The pair will clean a flat surface (usually a flat sheet or the side of the tank) before breeding. Parents should not be removed from the fry; fry feed on mucus from their parents.
Largely carnivorous, Blue Diamond Discus prefers BloodWorm and tubifex, the still processed "ball-shaped" food designed for Discus fish, also high quality flakes.
