'Rennie' is a well-known variety which is characterized by being the smallest among the red Echinodorus, 15-40 cm tall and 15 to 25 cm wide.
The new leaves of the plant are reddish-brown to deep maroon in colour. It can be used in small aquariums. The plant requires a lot of light and food for optimal color development.
