With its distinctive golden coloration and much smaller adult size, the Kelberi is one of the most popular of these large predatory cichlids in the aquarium hobby. Originating from the rivers of southeastern Brazil (including the Tocantins), these fish are popular . Kelberi are predatory and will eat any fish they can fit in their large mouths. They are best kept in small groups with similarly sized cichlids, although aggression and territoriality can be a problem as they reach maturity.
