GURAMI PERL

It originates from Malaysia and belongs to the family Belondidae. Its common names are pearl or lace gourami. The first synonym of its scientific name refers to the two "hair-shaped" touch sensors on the fish's belly, while the second is named in honor of Dr. Van Leer.

The male fish builds a nest of bubbles on the surface of calm water, cares for and protects the eggs, aerates and cleans the nest, reinserts the eggs that fall and removes any fungi by spitting quartz grains on them.Poor nutrition (they are insectivorous in their natural environment) can cause dropsy in the fish, while low pH values, combined with high temperatures, can cause velvet disease. Despite their size they are quiet fish and do not disturb even smaller fish.

Males may show restrained aggression during the mating season. Their babies will accept infusorians as their first food. They are good jumpers and therefore aquariums housing them should have closed lids.
